What is the Hall Effect?

The Hall effect occurs when a magnetic field is applied perpendicular to a current-carrying conductor or semiconductor. This creates a voltage (Hall voltage) across the conductor, which can be measured.

Hall effect sensors use this principle to detect magnetic fields and output an electrical signal.

Advantages

  • Durability: No physical contact means no wear and tear.
  • High Sensitivity: Can detect weak magnetic fields with precision.
  • Adjustable Actuation: In keyboards or other devices, actuation points can be customized.
  • Reliability: Resistant to dust, dirt, and moisture.
  • Speed: Responds quickly, making it ideal for high-speed applications.
